SEND at TCP
At TCP we aim to provide high quality education for all the children who attend our school. It is recognised that many children at some time in their primary education will have special needs that need to be addressed by the school.
A child has Special Educational Needs if they have a learning difficulty, behavioural difficulty, physical difficulty or medical problems which calls for special educational provision to be made for them.
Children have a learning difficulty if they:
- have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age;
- have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same age. This may relate to impairments in communication and interaction, cognition and learning, behavioural, emotional and social development, or sensory or physical needs.
Special educational provision is that which is additional to or different from the educational provision made generally for children of their age.
The emphasis of our Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) policy is on the early identification of any difficulties a child may have and to respond to these needs by offering an appropriate learning environment in which a range of differentiated activities are provided.
Our school's SEND Manager or SENCO is Mrs Higson who is also our Deputy Headteacher and is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day provision for pupils with special educational needs. The Governor appointed to have particular oversight of SEND within school is Asa Burton, who works closely with Mrs Higson with regard to the SEND provision in school and has a professional background in SEND.
